- Junkyarddawg, on 10/11/2007, -8/+62How many times have the Bush administration ***** science to further their religious right-wing agenda?
What do you call someone who thinks ideology is more important than reality?
Insane.- ccrook, on 10/11/2007, -15/+5While the right is all about religious ideology in some areas, I don't see how this has anything to do with religion.
Funny enough, the left is about ideology rather than reality in terms of economic policy and gun control...- norman619, on 10/11/2007, -5/+2The left is not in harmony with the ideals of the founding fathers and teh constitution. They remind me of thm slimy evanjelists who will say anything they feel their followers want to hear.
- DesuKN, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Gun control has entered the conversation. Gun nuts inbound in three, two, one
- quaxon, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1im as far left as possible and i believe there should NOT be any gun control. guns exist and are going to continue existing so get them in the hands of good citizens rather than bad.
- zybch, on 10/11/2007, -3/+14Of course its about religious ideology! The rabid religious right-wingers honestly think that the end of days is soon approaching, so they don't give a flying ***** about the environment or anything in it because jesus is gonna come walking through the door and everybody (deserving) will get whisked up to heaven!
In fact they are doing their utmost to encourage this by religiously reading the crap in Revelation and not waiting for god to do it, but doing it themselves to speed up the 2nd coming!- norman619, on 10/11/2007, -4/+4Nice way to assume you know what's in the heads of these people. This is not about religion. It's about land and money. It's about business. My god how ignorant are you?
- itanshi, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Different means, same end perhaps. It does us no good to quibble over the small stuff when we all together want to work towards preventing the end.
- coyoteblue, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2This is, in fact, precisely what the president of Iran believes.
I find it odd how often the beliefs of right-wing Christians and and radical Muslims intersect.
- norman619, on 10/11/2007, -4/+4Nice way to assume you know what's in the heads of these people. This is not about religion. It's about land and money. It's about business. My god how ignorant are you?
- Randinn, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8This isn't about religion, it's just about plain old corruption...
- ccrook, on 10/11/2007, -15/+5While the right is all about religious ideology in some areas, I don't see how this has anything to do with religion.
- cosmikdebris, on 10/11/2007, -5/+10"It was also the latest evidence that Bush administration officials have routinely manipulated scientific information for political ends." I'll not going to slate Bush and his cronies here as I live across the pond and it's not my place, I'll leave that to you lot that have to put up with him day in day out. My comment is this: When have the environment and politics ever gone hand in hand? When it suits their agenda, "their" being all politicians, our lot included. When votes and money is on the horizon, period.
- reeder, on 10/11/2007, -3/+19I think the "blame all politicians" game is just another way to divert blame away from the Bush Administration. Broad speculative notions always seem to leave out the names of the worst offenders. When we do the same for skin color, it's called racism.
- Junkyarddawg, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Agreed. Politicians are humans: all are fallible, some are bad, some are good. Assign blame where blame is due, please. Only the bad ones profit from all politicians being tarred with the same brush.
- schroeder, on 10/11/2007, -1/+29I think if anyone in office or of high governmental standing purposefully misleads American citizens, they should automatically be removed from office and thrown in jail for a substantial number of years without parole (period)
- diggsIt, on 10/11/2007, -6/+3In theory, I agree with you. But, every President going back to Washington would be in the clink.
- zybch, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2"But, every President going back to Washington would be in the clink."
And that would be bad why??
- zybch, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2"But, every President going back to Washington would be in the clink."
- lostboy, on 10/11/2007, -7/+2i would argue there are some instances where a government needs to be slightly dishonest with their citizens. do i agree with that, as an individual no, but i can't imagine every scenario i would ever have to deal with running a country.
anyhow, the technicalities of proving someone is lying, specially someone from the government, are very large. it's the kind of thing that can take months or years to get to court, and then more months and years in court, and even then that person gets off on a technicality.
china recently executed one of their officials for being corrupt, do you think that will stop the widespread corruption in China?- norman619, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1100% truth with the peopel you lead is a fantasy. Some secrecy is needed. To say the government has to inform the people of every little thing they know or are doing is retarded and naive. It would be nice if the world worked like many of you wish it did. Fact is this world can be a dark place and our leaders often protect us from seeing just how dark it is at times. Are YOU 100% honest with everyone you know? If you say yes then you are full of *****. :-)
- schroeder, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1They can refuse to comment on a situation or say they are taking care of it (as they often do), but to outright say "black is white" is just wrong, especially to push a partisan agenda.
- cmiller1, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11I feel that the mere fact that there are any politicians in power right now that aren't using every bit of their power to stop bush shows that not just him, but every politician in america right now, needs to be replaced
- norman619, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2This is not about Bush. Sorry but the president is not as powerful as you people seem to think he is. I would have thought what happened to JFK would have clued you into that. If you honestly think the politicians are the ones in ultimate control of the governemt then you need to really do more research. Try to remember our government is the best money can BUY.

- GuruKid, on 10/11/2007, -11/+2I bet Ron Paul is against saving engangered species.
It's a good thing too. Since when do animals have rights? If you want a certain species to survive, you should take voluntary action to save them.- Bdog2g2, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2you do know you're an animal right? I mean that literally.
- BarneyF, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Preserving species is not about protecting the rights of individual animals.
- norman619, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2It's also ignoring the fact that many species die out naturally only to have somethintg else fill their niche in the system. The US was crawling with all kinds of animals before the Europeans came and wiped a good portion of them out in their colonizing of this great land. Has the land suffered? No. The ecosystems of this continent are fine. It's just another way eniornmentalists try to deal with their own misguided guilt. You are right this is not about protecting the rights of individual animals. It's about these misguided enviornmentalists trying to make themselves feel better and ease their guilt.

- radio1mike, on 10/11/2007, -9/+3I am a scientist and I have never voted for Bush.
Bit a few things strike me as odd, about this topic and some comments...
1) Politicians manipulating science data? Scientists manipulate data all the time. Work on a study of any kind and investigators usually throw out any data outliers by the truckload to get something approved for human use, even if those outliers may reveals some type of nasty side-effect or antagonistic-effect in treatment. Never mind the wholesale massaging 'side-effects' data gets before a drug gets released that can do some harm- think Celebrex.
2) Rachel Carson writes a book about a poorly designed study of bird egg thicknesses and gets DDT banned from use. Approximately 30 years after the last use of DDT, malaria kills tens of thousands of individuals around the world. Never even mind the emergence of even more tropical diseases with mosquitoes as vectors in temperate zones like the US. Perhaps some birds should have gone extinct to save those lives?
3) The Endangered Species Act was signed into law by Nixon, a Republican.- publiclurker, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5Based on this post, you apparently you think mucking out the monkey cages at a research lab counts as being a scientist. I won't wast my time on your attempt at claiming that since everyone else is corrupt (a false statement by the way), that it's OK for this bunch of crooks. I don't accept this line of reasoning from my children so there is no reason for me to waste my time on it from a supposed man.
A simple check of facts however shows that DDT is allowed for use against malaria mosquitoes One can only wonder what actual use you would like to profit from under the guise of saving lives.- norman619, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Nice you can't argue with his facts so you try to say he's not a scientist. Your debate skills are pretty lacking. Try countering him with facts of your own?
- pgoetz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1You're a wing nut posing as a biologist. Global warming is a hoax, too -- right?

- norman619, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Wrong. Your tax money is being used to pay the interest on the national debt. None of your tax money actually goes to pay for services or run the government. Don't feel bad yours is a wide spread misconception of how our tax dollars are used.

http://www.911blogger.com/node/10130 - PepeGSay, on 10/11/2007, -7/+2Animals have been becoming extinct for millions of years. - Bdog2g2, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2"Animals have been becoming extinct for millions of years"
While, true, those animals have become extinct via natural means. Man is the one species that can cause, unnaturally, the extinction of most species on Earth. With that ability, we have the responsibility not to allow that to happen. - norman619, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1You are correct and because you are correct and making sense the diggers here will digg you down. - DesuKN, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Name one good thing Bush appointees have done.
- Jamihabs, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2In this case, it appears that a Bush appointee has the nerve to stand up to a bunch of hysterical environmentalists who, in many cases are more anti-capitalists than pro-environment. Good for her and good for Bush. It’s about time.
- egrumling, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3# White-tailed prairie dog.

{yea, this is sarcasm, for all you who don't get it} - rainergamer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2So wasn't Al Gore's recent, untrue allegation that he had eaten an endangered fish or some other dumb ***** at his daughter's wedding reception all over the news?

- Jamihabs, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2So, was MacDonald manipulating the evidence for the Bush administration or was it to protect her family’s property?
The Contra Costa Times (whatever the hell that is) stated that “Bush administration officials have routinely manipulated scientific information for political ends”. Yet it gave no other examples. This smells like just more Bush bashing.- FreddieFalcon, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1The best response is to send you to this Wikipedia article which summarizes many examples. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Politicization_of_science
I am surprised this is the first you have heard of these.- Jamihabs, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Thank you. That was informative. One note: Wikipedia is often slanted as far left as, I'm sure, the Contra Costa Times is. To consider the politicization of Global Warming and make no reference to what Al Gore has been up to, gives their agenda away.
- FreddieFalcon, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1The best response is to send you to this Wikipedia article which summarizes many examples. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Politicization_of_science
- Jamihabs, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Here is a much more balanced article that presents both sides.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/10/29/AR2006102900776.html- FreddieFalcon, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Agreed. The Post does a nice job. Unfortunately, the article is approaching a year old. Since then, a federal Inspector General's audit turned up additional information that caused her to resign and her former boss to review her conduct and attempt to rectify it. It is what it is.
- Veritas77, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Put it under politics, douchebag, this isn't environmental news.
- siszam, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1This is not about religion. Many people who love God also love the environment. If you want to be a narrow minded, bigot who doesn't believe in freedom of religion and you hate people simply because they are Christians then fine. But stop accusing Christians of being behind every evil little plot that a few extremist, Bush worshipers come up with. The lunatic fringe of fake Christians do not represent the majority. Much like the lunatic fringe of Atheists who want Christians dead don't represent the sane Atheists who just don't believe in God. Gee, people, it's scary how much in common some of you have with groups like the KKK and Neo Nazi's. Hate is hate.
- climateHeretic, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I thought enviro-nuts were all about global warming, but now its environmental conspiricies... oh wait .... there the comments have started, sorry did not read all the way through, my bad. Amazing how fast things degenerate.Besides I am sure President Bush woke up one day and said only give the flies an acre per species, right after the morning situation reports, but before the should I create another hurricane decision.
- bliss3311, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0If you still support Bush... you just haven't been paying attention.
